Plaine Products Lotion Review
In my search for finding a plastic free lotion option, I struggled a bit. I found that the DIY lotion I made was too greasy, even if it was very moisturizing. I wanted something that was more like what I was used to, but without the single-use plastic. That’s when I found Plaine Products.
Plaine Products offers a selection of products, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion that are shipped to you. All of their products come in reusable and recyclable aluminum bottles, and you only receive a plastic pump with your first order. When you run out of your product, you keep the pump and ship back the bottle in the labeled box they provide. They then wash and reuse it and ship you a refilled bottle.
Plaine Products are vegan, biodegradable, hypoallergenic, cruelty free certified, and free of palm oil and other gross ingredients like sulfates, parabens, and phthalates. Basically, the lotion isn’t just good for the environment because of the way it’s packaged––It also doesn’t mistreat animals and is good for us to use on our skin.
I bought the rosemary mint vanilla body lotion ($30 for 16oz) . At the time, it was the only scent available but since then they’ve created a citrus lavender option. The consistency and feel of the lotion is really nice. It’s fast absorbing and rehydrating. However, I personally didn’t like the smell (it smells similar to Aveda’s rosemary mint products). It’s also pricy. Another aspect I didn’t love was that there would be a lot of cardboard waste through the shipment of bottles. I think this is better than the waste from normal plastic bottles of lotion, but still is something to consider.
Ultimately, I didn’t purchase the Plaine Products lotion again. Instead, I found an unscented lightweight lotion at my local grocery that’s sold in bulk and reused my aluminum bottle. If you live in a region that doesn’t offer bulk lotion and are willing to spend the money, I would recommend Plaine Products!
