Avarcas Pons Ethical Sandals Review

I had been eyeing a pair of Avarcas Pons for awhile before I bought a pair. Thankfully, they’re ethically made on the Spanish island of Menorca by using locally sourced rubber and leather. Also, 10% of the classic style sandal soles come from recycled tires. They are also chrome dyed to satisfy strict EU REACH standards.

I bought the Classic Style Strap in chocolate. They usually sell for $95, but I saved a few dollars by buying them on Black Friday. I recommend purchasing your EU size (I’m a 38 but a US 7) as the size 7 was too small for me (basically, size up from your normal US size). I’m very happy I bought the strap version because without it they’d fall off of my narrow feet and ankles.

The sole, although flat, offers just enough support to make them comfortable throughout the day. However, I wouldn’t recommend wearing them for long standing or walking days. They did take a few weeks of wear to break in. To make them more comfortable when I first got them, I scrunched the leather by putting my hand with my fingers stretched out the toe whole, palm upwards. By working the leather, it formed a natural crease where it would bend when I walked.

Pictured are my Pons which I’ve had for almost a year now. I wore them a lot but with proper care they held up really well. Every once and awhile I’ll use a damp cloth to wipe them down and an old damp toothbrush to clean the stitching. Next, I use some saddle soap to clean and moisturize them. Once they’ve dried, I buff them with a soft cloth.

I highly recommend Avarcas Pons sandals!
