Allbrids Sneakers Review
Allbirds are like slippers, but better because you can wear them outside.
I was on the hunt for some comfortable environmentally-friendly sneakers I could wear on lazy days or out for a walk. Allbirds checks all of those boxes. The company makes several different shoes made from different materials, such as their tree skippers or sugar zeffers. I bought the wool runners ($95) which are made out of merino wool, a naturally breathable, temperature-regulating, and moisture wicking material. Allbirds only sources wool from sheep herds that adhere to high standards of farming, land management, and animal welfare. Plus, using wool takes 60% less energy than synthetic materials. Their laces are made from recycled plastic, their soles are made from castor bean oil, and their packaging is 90% post-consumer recycled cardboard.
Wearing the wool runners actually feels a little like walking on a cloud. They're cozy and can be worn with or without socks due to their moisture-wicking properties. They come in lots of fun colors, many of which are limited edition and always changing. Plus, if you want to switch up your style without having to buy a whole new pair of shoes, Allbirds sells their recycled plastic laces separately. They're true to size, though if you plan to wear thick socks you should size up. It should be noted that the runners are not intended for running in.
My only criticism of the wool runners is that the inside heel of the shoe started to pill immediately after I bought them. However, this isn't a big issue because it's unnoticeable when wearing them and doesn't affect the comfort of the shoes.
